Stephanie McGraw, PsyD

CO-FOUNDER AND LICENSED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

IMG_9458.JPG

Stephanie McGraw is a licensed clinical psychologist and a co-founder of Aspen Grove Wellness. She completed her doctoral degree through George Washington University’s Professional Psychology Program before spending eight years as an Assistant Clinical Professor with West Virginia University: School of Medicine – East. Through her work at WVU Medicine, Stephanie helped build their psychology program in the eastern panhandle of WV, designed their APA-Accredited Internship in Clinical Psychology, and served for six years as its Internship Training Director.

Theoretically, she identifies as an integrative psychologist who is heavily influenced by relational, developmental, and cognitive behavioral theories. In practice, she strives to create a foundation of trust with each person with whom she works that is based on genuine respect, empathy, and emotional authenticity.

BIO

Her initial goals of treatment are to understand her patients’ lived experiences and the function of their behaviors before prescribing specific interventions or recommendations. Her hope is to help others develop increased insight into the workings of their own minds, to assess the barriers negatively impacting their current functioning, and to move them closer to an emotionally authentic life that is in line with their individual values.

Outside of her professional work, Stephanie throws herself fully into her identities as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and cousin. Her family life provides her with deep insights into the unique dynamics of diverse family relationships as well as individual identity within these spaces. She finds balance and inspiration in her roles at home, which she believes enrich her understanding and empathy as a psychologist.

When not chasing after one of her kids or dogs, Stephanie is a keen enthusiast of audiobooks. She enjoys exploring a wide range of stories and experiences through literature, which not only broadens her perspective but also informs her practice. Her love for memoirs in particular reflects her belief in the power of personal narratives and their role in shaping one’s identity and wellbeing.

By integrating her personal experiences with her professional expertise, Stephanie offers a holistic and empathetic approach to psychology, grounded in both her professional knowledge and her lived experiences.
