POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

Learn & Grow With Us!

NOW RECRUITING FOR THE 2027-2028 FELLOWSHIP YEAR!

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology

APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1, 2027

Aspen Grove Wellness is accepting applications for postdoctoral fellowships in adult clinical psychology for the 2027–2028 academic year. The fellowship runs from August 30, 2027, through August 29, 2028.

Aspen Grove Wellness is a growing, values-driven group mental health practice committed to providing thoughtful, accessible, and deeply human care. We believe the work of psychotherapy is sacred, that meaningful connection can change lives, and that clinicians flourish when they are supported, challenged, and invited to contribute to something larger than themselves.

Our headquarters are located in Richmond, Virginia, with an additional office in Hagerstown, Maryland. We also provide robust telehealth services, allowing for in-person, remote, and hybrid training experiences. Although some regular in-office presence is strongly encouraged to support mentorship, professional development, and connection with the broader clinical community, telework may be available to fellows who are physically located in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia.

Who We Are Looking For

We are drawn to applicants who are deeply client-centered, self-directed, collaborative, curious, and, above all, kind. Strong candidates approach clinical work with humility and respect for the complexity of human experience. They are willing to reflect honestly, receive feedback, continue growing, and take meaningful ownership of their development.

We are also intentionally building a culture of contribution. At Aspen Grove Wellness, being part of a team means more than completing assigned responsibilities. It means noticing where support is needed, sharing ideas, following through on commitments, and helping strengthen the community around you. We seek fellows who want to learn from others while also bringing their own energy, perspective, initiative, and care to the team.

Applicants should have a strong interest in specialized training in adult psychotherapy. Our clinical work frequently includes complex trauma, relational and attachment-based concerns, anxiety, mood disorders, identity development, personality functioning, and longstanding interpersonal patterns.

Training Experience

The fellowship provides advanced training across a range of theoretical orientations, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, attachment-based, and relational approaches. Training is integrative and grounded in the needs of each individual client.

The fellowship emphasizes:

  • Clinical depth and the development of a thoughtful therapeutic presence
  • Reflective practice and increased awareness of the clinician’s use of self
  • Sophisticated case conceptualization and treatment planning
  • Longitudinal psychotherapy with adults
  • Ethical decision-making and professional identity development
  • Responsiveness to culture, identity, systems, and lived experience
  • Timely, accurate, and clinically meaningful documentation
  • Collaboration, consultation, and courageous engagement with feedback

Fellows receive two hours of scheduled individual clinical supervision each week and participate in weekly consultation meetings with other members of the clinical team. Supervision is intended to be both supportive and appropriately challenging, helping fellows deepen their clinical judgment, recognize areas for growth, and develop greater confidence and independence.

Fellows may also gain exposure to the administrative, ethical, and operational dimensions of a values-driven group practice. Depending on interest and organizational needs, opportunities may include learning about leadership development, clinical training, systems building, access to care, organizational culture, and the creation of sustainable mental health services.

Our Clinical Community

We believe meaningful care for clients begins with meaningful care for clinicians. We are intentional about creating an environment where people are supported as whole human beings while also being invited into high standards of clinical excellence, dependability, and contribution.

Our culture values kindness, intentional connection, ongoing learning, honest repair, and timeliness as an expression of trust. We want fellows to have appropriate boundaries, rest, and support. We also want them to experience the purpose and fulfillment that come from showing up fully for clients, colleagues, and the communities we serve.

Collaboration is central to the fellowship experience. Fellows are expected to participate actively in supervision, consultation, organizational learning, and the life of the clinical community. We are best suited for applicants who want to be known by their colleagues, invest in shared goals, and contribute to a team rather than practice in isolation.

Aspen Grove Wellness is committed to inclusion, affirmation, and equity. We actively welcome applicants who bring diverse identities, perspectives, lived experiences, and ways of understanding the world, including individuals from historically underrepresented communities.
